2. Transportation and directions from Tokyo to Sendai Station area

The choice of transportation from Tokyo to Sendai Station depends on your budget, time, and travel purpose. Choose the Shinkansen if time is a priority, an express bus if you want to save money, or a car if you prefer freedom of movement. Select the method that best suits your situation.

2-1. Train

The most common, fastest, and most comfortable way to travel from Tokyo Station to Sendai Station is by using the JR Tohoku Shinkansen. The Tohoku Shinkansen operates trains such as "Hayabusa," "Yamabiko," and "Nasuno," but the main direct services to Sendai are "Hayabusa" and "Yamabiko."
If you take the Hayabusa, the fare from Tokyo Station to Sendai Station is approximately 11,410 yen, and the journey takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes.

2-2. Bus

You can also travel from Tokyo to Sendai by bus. While it takes longer than the Shinkansen, it's relatively inexpensive, and overnight buses allow you to make effective use of your time.
The main boarding locations are as follows:

・4th floor of Busta Shinjuku
・Tokyo Station Yaesu South Exit (JR Express Bus Terminal)
・Ikebukuro Station East Exit
・Other buses depart from locations such as Tokyo Teleport Station and Shibuya Station
※Departure and arrival locations vary by bus company and service, so confirmation is necessary when booking.

Fares (one-way, per adult, approximate range) are as follows:

・Daytime buses: About 4,000-7,000 yen
・Overnight buses: About 5,000-10,000 yen

※Fares vary depending on the bus company, type of service (3-row seating, 4-row seating, etc.), season (peak or off-peak), and when you book. Early bookings may qualify for discounts.

Travel time is approximately 6-8 hours for daytime buses and 7-9 hours for overnight buses.

2-3. Airplane

Tokyo has two airports, Tokyo International Airport (Haneda Airport) and Narita International Airport, but neither offers direct flights to Sendai Airport. This is because the Tohoku Shinkansen is more convenient.
Alternative routes include connecting through Osaka (Itami Airport or Kansai International Airport), Nagoya (Chubu International Airport), Sapporo (New Chitose Airport), or Fukuoka Airport to reach Sendai Airport.
However, connections significantly increase travel time and cost. Therefore, when traveling from Tokyo to Sendai, the Shinkansen remains the most time and cost-efficient option.

・From around Tokyo Station, enter the Metropolitan Expressway Inner Circular Route (C1), then proceed to the Tohoku Expressway via Kandabashi JCT.
